While living in Southwest Colorado for 11 years, Elissa Dickson fell in love with the wild landscapes and communities of the region. She writes on place, culture, and the environment.
A talented slam poet with degrees in Biology and French from the University of Michigan Honors College, Elissa deftly blends scientific understanding with poetic themes in her reporting to craft powerful stories that speak deeply to the question of what it means to be human.
Elissa served as the San Miguel County Poet Laureate from 2016-2019 teaching and performing poetry in Telluride’s schools and community. Elissa also worked in programming and outreach at the Wilkinson Public Library for 11 years and believes deeply in listening to and supporting people of all ages. As a teacher, she believes writing creatively can be vital nourishment for the soul.
When she grows up she hopes to be a river otter.
